Porcelain Crowns

Crowns were traditionally made of porcelain fused to metal. Modern porcelain crowns are considerably stronger than those of the past and can be fused directly to the teeth. Most often these are used on the front teeth or cosmetic teeth and reflect light in such a way as to look exactly like your natural teeth.

Porcelain crowns are used for a number of reasons. In addition to covering discolored teeth, they can close gaps between teeth, straighten crooked or crowded teeth and change the size or shape of teeth. They can protect damaged teeth (Teeth with large cavities, cracked teeth and teeth damaged due to root canal). Porcelain crowns give your dentist greater flexibility and can even be used in place of a dental implant

Advantages of Porcelain Crowns

Crowns that were fused to metal left a tell-tale line where the tooth met the gum. No such line exists with porcelain crowns. Porcelain crowns are shaped to your teeth and designed to match your natural color. They are undetectable to everyone except you and your dentist. They are strong and durable. They fit so well you will not even notice you have them.

Disadvantages of Porcelain Crowns

Porcelain crowns cost more than traditional crowns. When they are first put in place, you may notice some sensitivity to hot and cold food and water for a few days.Porcelain crowns may require a bit more tooth reduction than traditional crowns.

Maintenance of Porcelain Crowns

Treat your porcelain crowns as you would your regular teeth. Brush and floss them as normal. The only difference is that you will not use an abrasive toothpaste. Following the placement of your porcelain crowns, your dentist will schedule a follow-up appointment a few weeks later. Even if you feel you have no problems at all, it is important that you attend this appointment. Your dentist may notice something you missed. Maintaining the schedule your dentist advises is an important part of the long-term maintenance of your porcelain crowns.Dream Dental Is Proud to Serve Goodlettsville’s Families! Book Now

I enjoy going to Dream Dental, the customer service is great from the reception/check out staff, hygienist to the Dentist. My experience each time has been positive. I like the ability to get an appointment without a long extended wait and they also explain various treatment options with what is covered by my insurance and what is not.
