Porcelain veneers, in simple terms, are very thin shell type of coverings which are stuck on top of the surface of a tooth or teeth. This is done to cover up any cracks, fissures or staining of the teeth. These are in a way bonded onto the front surface to change the color, size, shape or length of the tooth. Dental veneers can be made with porcelain or from resin composite substances. These resist staining in a manner better than resin veneers and reflect light just like natural teeth do.
As touched upon before, dental veneers take care of the following:Teeth which are discolored – due to root canal treatment, staining due to tetracycline or other drugs, are exposed more to fluoride and other chemicals et al. can be taken care of by dental veneers. Also, the veneers take care of teeth which are worn out or are chipped or broken; also those teeth which are misaligned, uneven or shaped irregularly; teeth which have spaces or gaps between them.
Teeth staining can be looked after by teeth whitening procedures as well. In these, a whitening gel is applied onto the surface of the tooth or teeth. A light beam or an ultraviolet ray is passed through the gel, and this activates it. After a given duration of time of the rays activating the gel, the teeth whitening happens. With this procedure, teeth can get whitened by several grades. However, teeth whitening can even be done by using whitening toothpaste and gums. These do whiten the teeth but not to a large extent. Also, this procedure is not a permanent one. The teeth can get re-stained if proper oral hygiene is not maintained. After the whitening, one should take care to brush teeth at least twice daily for two minutes at least each time. Also, regular dental flossing should be done, and also food items like beetroot and regular intake of coffee et al. should be avoided.
Cracks in the tooth or teeth can be taken care of by placing a dental crown or cap. With this method, the entire surface area of the tooth is covered up. Any gaps between teeth also get addressed in this manner. Sometimes if the tooth or teeth are really in bad shape, one can go in for dental implant treatment as well. Via this process, the tooth is extracted out. A titanium screw is embedded in the jaw bone, and the bone grows around this naturally in a span of three to four months. During this time, the screw gets firmly implanted in the jaw bone. A dental cap or crown is placed atop the screw to show up as the tooth. For details contact: 900 Conference Dr # 6a, Goodlettsville, TN 37072.
